Elon Musk Says He Will Create His Own Smartphone if App Stores Boot Twitter

Twitter has been on a wild ride ever since its new chief, Elon Musk, took over the platform after a months-long saga of going back and forth with the acquisition deal.

Almost half of Twitter’s workforce has been depleted since then, and many of them decided to leave the company after Musk released a “hardcore” ultimatum requiring them to work longer hours.

Speculations and concerns regarding Twitter’s demise have since flared out after the workers’ diaspora. But so far, the Bluebird app is alive and “tweeting.”

However, Musk is also bracing for the possibility of Twitter being booted out from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

“Alternative Phone”

“If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?,” conservative podcaster Liz Wheeler said in a tweet.

Musk entertained the idea and responded: “I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone.”

The billionaire’s tweet gained over 37.9k retweets, 411.4k likes, and 7221 quote tweets after replying to Wheeler’s post.

Elon Musk reportedly revealed his smartphone plans when Apple App Store CEO Phil Schiller deactivated his Twitter account, according to a New York Post story.

Yoel Roth, the former head of trust and safety at Twitter, also tweeted that if the firm didn’t follow the rules, Apple and Google might remove Twitter from their app stores.

However, some analysts expressed their opinions on the matter and are pessimistic that Musk will take on the phone industry into consideration.

Possible Roadblocks

The platform itself, the OS (Operating System), the app store, and the smartphone ecosystem are some of the biggest problems the billionaire could encounter.

Alternative systems that potentially compete with iOS and Android have already been developed by Amazon, Samsung, and other industry titans.

Analysts further argue that Musk needs to entice app developers into building new applications for his prospective smartphone platform. He also needs to create alternative services and apps that can compete head-to-head against those that Apple and Google own.

Furthermore, analysts noted that managing a mobile platform is entirely different from businesses such as Tesla and SpaceX.

But of course, this matter is still prospective in nature, sparked by Schiller deactivating from the bird app and Roth raising such a possibility.

For now, Musk’s era on Twitter continues.
